Viewer access
Viewers can use the Gem and can see its instructions and uploaded files.
Editor access
Editors can change instructions and files, share the Gem and delete it.
People, link or broader access
Depending on the account, you can share with specific people, your organisation, anyone with the link or the public.
Check the files before sharing
Knowledge becomes visible
Review sensitive instructions and every uploaded file before granting access.
File access must also be shared
A Gem with files may ask you to grant access to those files; unsupported knowledge sources can block sharing.
NotebookLM is not a shared Gem source
Google states that NotebookLM notebooks cannot be used as a source for shared Gems.
Practical rule
Gems are shareable, but sharing exposes the instructions and knowledge to people with access. Give Editor rights only when someone should be able to change the Gem.
